RESPECT, PURPOSE and EMPLOYING EMIRATI’S IN UAE

Respect used to be something we grew up with and knew how to use when and where also.

Respect for all sorts of things human, animal, inanimate, tangible and intangible. Self, each other, parents, extended family, home, school, on and on until country and law of the land we live in. Why then do we seem to have forgotten that respect is often key to communication, opening doors and being accepted at work, in our community and where we call home?

According to the URBAN Dictionary RESPECT ‘’means valuing each other’s points of views. It means being open to being wrong. It means accepting people as they are. It means not dumping on someone because you’re having a bad day. It means being polite and kind always, because being kind to people is not negotiable. It means not dissing people because they’re different to you. It means not gossiping about people or spreading lies.’’

Corporate Social Responsibility or CSR is something many companies pay lip service to but how often do they actually deliver on the promises? We all write business plans with Vision, Mission and Values bit often miss out on the purpose what is it we actually do and what is our end goal. In order to write policies and then the procedures we need to understand our purpose. Our business purpose should guide all our decisions – across people, community, stakeholders, customers and the planet – and encourage companies to implement robust policies that make a genuine impact in areas that matter most. A purpose that will be Relevant, Original and Impactful!

So why do so many have such a challenge with job seekers and employers sourcing the right person for the right job at the right time and place? Urban myths abound around the Emirati work ethic but to those who have an open mind and seek to enable and facilitate the story I can assure you it will be only one of joy and success. When people earn respect and have a purpose they not only survive but thrive and by their very being encourage others to do the same. The self-fulfilling prophecy combined urban myth and expats own insecurities’ or lack of intercultural, multicultural and cross cultural behaviour then add transience into the equation the recipe is certainly a challenge.

TAWTEEN Arabic for Emiratisation, is mandated as follows: Emiratisation aims to increase the number of Emiratis in the job market and their contribution to the economy. Emiratisation will promote development-oriented policies that support productive activities, decent job creation. It will lead to substantially increase the number of youth and adults who have relevant skills, including technical and vocational skills, for employment, decent jobs and entrepreneurship. [ABSHER is an initiative supervised by Ministry of Presidential Affairs and implemented by MoHRE]

In short Emiratisation is a fact of life it has a purpose and we will treat it with respect and honour the vision of the founding fathers.
